What is the Sophyx Schema Markup Generator?

A free tool that writes JSON-LD schema markup for your pages. JSON-LD is a small block of code that labels your facts (business name, address, hours, services, prices, FAQs) in a format search engines and AI tools read directly. You paste it into your page, and visitors don't see it.

Labelled facts are easier for AI to trust and repeat. They work best when the same facts appear on your page and everywhere else online.

Example JSON-LD schema

Here is the markup for a made-up dental clinic in Ottawa.

mapleandpinedental.ca, homepage

Example · JSON-LD

{
  "@context": "https://schema.org",
  "@type": "Dentist",
  "name": "Maple & Pine Dental",
  "url": "https://mapleandpinedental.ca",
  "telephone": "+1-613-555-0187",
  "priceRange": "$$",
  "address": {
    "@type": "PostalAddress",
    "streetAddress": "412 Elgin St",
    "addressLocality": "Ottawa",
    "addressRegion": "ON",
    "postalCode": "K2P 1M6",
    "addressCountry": "CA"
  },
  "openingHoursSpecification": [
    {
      "@type": "OpeningHoursSpecification",
      "dayOfWeek": ["Monday", "Tuesday", "Wednesday", "Thursday", "Friday"],
      "opens": "08:00",
      "closes": "18:00"
    },
    {
      "@type": "OpeningHoursSpecification",
      "dayOfWeek": "Saturday",
      "opens": "09:00",
      "closes": "14:00"
    }
  ],
  "sameAs": [
    "https://www.facebook.com/mapleandpinedental",
    "https://www.instagram.com/mapleandpinedental"
  ]
}
  • Every field matches what the page shows. No ratings or reviews that aren't on the page.
  • Paste it into the page inside a script tag with type="application/ld+json", then test it in Google's Rich Results Test.
Example only. Maple & Pine Dental is a made-up clinic; the address, phone number and hours are invented.

Treat it as a first draft. Check every field against the page, remove anything that isn't true or isn't shown, and test it before you publish.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Choose your schema type

    Pick what the page is about: your business, a local service, a product, an article, an FAQ or software.

  2. Step 2

    Add your page details

    Name, address, phone, hours, services, prices, or questions and answers.

  3. Step 3

    Copy your JSON-LD

    Review it, paste it into your page, and test it.

What you get

Copy-ready JSON-LD

A clean block of code you can paste into your page, CMS or tag manager.

The right type for the page

Organization, LocalBusiness, Product, Article, FAQPage, Service, SoftwareApplication, BreadcrumbList and more.

Schema markup, explained

Why create schema markup?

A person can look at a page and tell it is a dentist's homepage with an address and opening hours. Search engines and AI tools need more help.

Schema markup adds labels: this is the business name, this is the phone number, these are the hours. Google says structured data can make pages eligible for rich results when it follows its guidelines, but eligibility does not guarantee a rich result will show.

What is JSON-LD?

JSON-LD (JavaScript Object Notation for Linked Data) is a block of code that describes the page. It sits in a script tag with type="application/ld+json" and doesn't change how the page looks.

Google supports JSON-LD, Microdata and RDFa, and recommends JSON-LD because it is the easiest to add and keep up to date.

What schema types should a website use?

  • Homepage: Organization, WebSite or LocalBusiness
  • Service page: Service
  • Blog post: Article or BlogPosting
  • Software: SoftwareApplication
  • Shop product: Product
  • A visible FAQ: FAQPage
  • Page path: BreadcrumbList

Use the type that matches the page. More types is not better.

What should you avoid adding?

  • Fake reviews or star ratings
  • FAQs that aren't on the page
  • Old addresses or phone numbers
  • Prices that don't match the page
  • Services you don't offer

Schema should match what visitors see. If it doesn't, it can do more harm than good.

Does schema markup help SEO?

It helps search engines understand the page, and some types can make a page eligible for rich results.

It doesn't guarantee better rankings, rich results or AI mentions. It works best next to clear pages and facts that agree across the web.

After you generate your schema

  1. 1.Check that every field is correct.
  2. 2.Make sure it matches what the page shows.
  3. 3.Remove anything that isn't true or isn't on the page.
  4. 4.Paste the JSON-LD into your page, CMS, theme or tag manager.
  5. 5.Test it with Google's Rich Results Test, Google's official tool for checking structured data.
  6. 6.Update it when your hours, prices, services or address change.

Questions people ask

Is the Sophyx Schema Markup Generator free?
Yes. Generate JSON-LD free at app.sophyx.io/schema-markup-generator. No signup, no card, no email.
Do I need to create an account?
No. The tool works without a Sophyx account.
What is schema markup?
Code added to a page that labels its facts, such as your business name, address or prices, so search engines can read them directly.
What is JSON-LD?
The most common format for schema markup. It is a separate block of code, so you can add it without changing how the page looks.
Where should I add JSON-LD schema on my website?
Inside a script tag with type application/ld+json in the page's HTML. You can add it in the page head or body, through your CMS or theme settings, or with a tag manager.
Will schema markup improve my Google rankings?
Not directly, and not guaranteed. It helps search engines understand the page and can make it eligible for rich results.
Does schema markup guarantee rich snippets?
No. Even valid schema doesn't guarantee rich results. Google decides when to show them, based on the content, its guidelines and the search.
Which schema type should I use?
The one that matches the page: Organization for your business, LocalBusiness for a local business, Product for products, Article for articles, FAQPage for a visible FAQ, and BreadcrumbList for page paths.
Can I edit the generated schema?
Yes, and you should. The tool gives you a good first draft, but the schema has to match your page exactly.
How often should I update schema markup?
Whenever the page changes: new hours, prices, services, address, FAQs or contact details. Old schema is one common reason AI repeats old facts.
How does structured data improve source selection logic for AI engines?
When AI picks sources for an answer, it favours pages it can read and trust. Structured data states your facts in a form machines read directly, so there is less to guess. It is one piece, next to clear pages and mentions on other sites.
Does schema markup help with AI hallucinations or misattribution?
It can help. Clear, correct schema leaves less room for AI to mix you up with someone else or invent details. It can't fix wrong facts on other sites, though. Sophyx shows where ChatGPT and Gemini get you wrong and helps correct the sources.
What is Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) and how does this tool help?
AEO means making your business easy for AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity to find, understand and name in their answers. This tool labels your business facts in a form AI tools can read without guessing. It is one fix you can make today. To see what AI actually says about you, run the free check at app.sophyx.io/brandanalysis.
How is AI SEO different from traditional SEO?
SEO is about ranking in a list of links on Google and Bing. AI SEO (also called AEO or GEO) is about what the AI says when it answers: whether it names you, and whether it gets your facts right. AI builds that answer from everything the web says about you, so clear pages, labelled facts and mentions on other sites all count. The same work helps both.
Which AI engines and platforms does Sophyx optimize for?
The fixes help on every assistant, because ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Copilot and Google AI Overviews all read the same public web. What we track is narrower: ChatGPT and Gemini, including Google AI Overviews. Your own website matters most, and sites like LinkedIn, Reddit and review sites also shape what AI says about you.
How does this free tool connect to Sophyx's AI visibility platform?
This tool checks or fixes one thing. Sophyx does the rest: it asks ChatGPT and Gemini the questions your customers ask, shows you where you are missing or described wrong, writes the fixes, and publishes them on your own website once you approve. Start with the free check at app.sophyx.io/brandanalysis.
Does Sophyx offer help for marketing agencies?
Yes. Through the Agency Partner Program, agencies run Sophyx for every client under their own brand, with white-label, client-ready reports and priority support. Many agencies use these free tools for a quick first look at a client's site.
